Our Le Book Connections Award in Amsterdam

16-05-2024

Our second trip to Le Book Connections Amsterdam led to our first Le Book award, in the CGI category for our ASICS Gel Nimbus 26 work. We’re really proud of the win and extremely pleased it was so well received by such a high caliber jury.

The dust has settled and we’ve come down from the high of winning. Time to reflect on the day and our experience.

It was an energised event, hosted high up in the amazing A’DAM Tower. It’s an impressive venue with some of the most incredible views of Amsterdam. The perfect setting for what would be a great day!

Our founders James and Joe, alongside Client Engagement Director Mark, manned the stand. We had the chance to share our work and ‘connect’ with great people from some of the most creative agencies and brands around.

Getting the party started

One of the unique things about the A’DAM Tower is the lifts (elevators). They’re themed in pretty weird and wonderful ways – think karaoke booth, disco music and floors that light up. Definitely enough to put you in the mood for a day of high-energy conversation with peers and partners on your way up to an event!

Stepping out of the lifts into the venue itself, we were greeted with an array of exhibitor’s stands – from the traditional photographers reps and creative studios to the much-less-traditional AI modelling agencies. Some familiar faces and some news ones, all of the level of quality and interest you’d expect from Le Book.

Once we’d had a quick breakfast and coffee, people started to filter into the event and the excitement was palpable. We were quickly engaged with people, deep in conversation about the work we do here at Wonder Vision.

Our submissions

This year we had two submissions in the CGI category – the ASICS Gel Nimbus 26 (produced in collaboration with Amsterdam-based agency Ronin) and our launch film for the Lucky Saint Hazy IPA, who we worked with directly.

Our film for the ASICS Gel Nimbus 26 showcases the tech features, utilising abstract metaphors to visualise the comfort added to every step. For the Lucky Saint Hazy IPA launch, our film brings the story to life by fusing high detail, photoreal™ CG modelling and thirst-inducing fluid VFX.

We’re extremely proud of both projects and were excited to hear the feedback from the many guests and jurors that would visit the stand throughout the day.

They’re totally different in execution and showcase the variety of skills we have in-house here. Whether we’re visualising photoreal trainers, abstract gel metaphors, marble hands or a refreshing can of alcohol-free beer, the attention to detail and craftsmanship is consistent and a trademark of the work we do here at Wonder Vision.

Sharing our passion

Throughout the day there was a steady stream of visitors and jurors alike, all thoroughly engaged in work we had to share. It’s moments like these where the passion we put into our projects comes through and we get to have the best conversations.

We get to tell our story through the work we do – the approach, the tools we use and the talent we have under our roof. At the same time, we learn about the ambitious projects creatives have in mind and how CGI might help them elevate those ideas. It’s a process we always thoroughly enjoy and it’s what kept us coming back to Le Book repeatedly over the last 3 years.
